DeLaney DeLaRosa has been around horses since she was a young girl. Now 17 and about to enter her senior year at Hawley High School, she has been selected as the Official Sponsor of the Texas Cowboy Reunion.
As Sponsor, she will continue the 86 year-old tradition of setting the clover leaf pattern each night, formally leading each night's barrel racing event. She will also assist this year's Hostess Patsy Richards in entertaining the barrel racers with a breakfast behind the chutes following the slack on Wednesday, June 29.
DeLaney is the daughter of Shannon and Randy DeLaRosa of Hawley. She is very delighted about being selected as Sponsor. "As a young girl, I dreamed about being the Sponsor at the TCR and it is such an honor to be able to do this." said DeLaRosa.
As she sets the pattern each night, she will be on her stunning palomino horse Frosty Magnolia Bug, known as "Bugs." A 9 year-old Gelding from the Jud Little Ranch in Oklahoma. Bugs was trained as a 4-year-old futurity by Joy Wargo, and DeLaney has been competing with him for the last two years.
DeLaney entered the Texas Cowboy Reunion for the first time 7 years ago. And while she has never won at the TCR, she has won 24 saddles, 63 belt buckles, and numerous other awards at other rodeo events.
This past year has been an interesting year to say the least, in the words of her little brother Dodge, "She got knocked out," in a horse accident at a rodeo, so she had to take some time off, but she is back riding and doing good. This year as Sponsor she will not compete, but will certainly be in the spotlight as she rounds the barrels each night.
Besides her TCR performances, DeLaney has ridden in numerous play days and rodeos since she was very young. She is a ten year member of the Hawley Saddle Club. She is also a member of many other rodeo organizations including- KJRA, WORLD F, WTRA, BBR, and WTBA. She has also competed at the Texas High School Rodeo the last three years.
When she is not riding horses, she spends her time being active with school activities. DeLaney is a basketball player and runs cross country. She will be a four year member of the Hawley High School Student Council and as well as FFA, where she exhibits pigs and is on the Horse Judging Team. As a freshman, she was voted Class Princess and was recently voted to be a Cheerleader.
And when she is not busy with school activities, she is busy working at the family ranch in Hawley. The ranch is equipped with an equine pool, used for horse therapy. DeLaney plans to attend college to get a business degree and then continue with a career in horse therapy and rehabilitation but she is not sure exactly which college she will be attending. She plans to leave those options open, but she does know she wants to rodeo while in college.
DeLaney is a sweet and talented young cowgirl who is headed in the right direction with her love for horses. There is no doubt that this year's TCR Sponsor will be a fun one to watch during each performance.
Always thinking of others, she added, "I would like to wish my little brother Dodge, a Happy Birthday, he will be turning 8, July 1." Just shows you her sweet personality.... so Happy 8th Birthday, Dodge.
