On January 27, 2016, Jones Co. Deputy, Lt. James Torres, ran a license plate check on a vehicle after hearing radio traffic from Haskell County Sheriff’s Office reference a stolen vehicle. The return came back stolen out of Abilene, TX. Lt. Torres attempted to make contact with the driver and the driver took off at a high rate of speed. This is what initiated the pursuit through the streets of Stamford. Stamford P.D. assisted in the pursuit and the pursuit continued into Jones County. Several units were involved in the pursuit; Jones Co Sheriff’s Dept., Stamford PD, Anson PD, Hawley PD and Texas D.P.S.
The pursuit headed east on Hwy 180 towards Albany. A D.P.S. Trooper was able to deploy spikes and deflated the tires on the vehicle being pursued. The driver continued driving and was forced to stop when Anson PD Officer David Sanchez was able to pen the car on the railing as they began crossing the bridge.
Two subjects, Brandon Platt and Nicole Ortiz, were arrested on scene and charged with multiple offenses; theft, possession of a controlled substance, counterfeit money and other evidence linking them to other crimes previously committed throughout Jones County. Two vehicles were recovered, one vehicle which had been stolen from Haskell and one from Abilene.
