Hawley Elementary recently hosted our “Jumping For Jack” event for Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart in support of the American Heart Association. Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart are community service learning programs of the American Heart Association. They teach kids:
the importance of developing heart-healthy habits;
that being physically active can be fun;
that raising funds to support cardiovascular research and education helps save lives in their community and across the country.
Millions of students have learned jump rope and basketball skills while learning how nutrition and physical activity can help them live longer, healthier lives. Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart also promote community service by teaching kids how to help others.
This year, Hawley Elementary, jumped in memory of Jack Jordan, son of Cory and Amanda Jordan. Baby Jack impacted many people in his four short months and brought great awareness to how young children can be impacted by heart complications. Our goal was to raise $3000, but our students were so highly motivated into wanting to help other children and honor Jack’s memory that they did an outstanding job raising $6939.41!
The class totals so far are: Kindergarten $1,914.41-highest money earner Bryson Stofel $350; 1st grade $1207-highest money earner Benjamin Zickerfoose $ 300; 2nd grade $940-highest money earner Keagan Ables $127; 3rd grade $ 951-highest money earner Landon Wilson $127; 4th grade $1167-highest money earner Marc Salas $160; 5th grade $755-highest money earner Matt Massey $205.
Jack’s parents and extended family helped Coach Clarissa Kapke at the event and hosted a heart-healthy snack table for the students. It was very touching watching the students and adults in their “Jumping for Jack” t-shirts raising money to help families like Jack’s. We could not have done it without the dedication and help of students, parents, teachers and all the family and friends of Jack that came and helped all day with this event.
