The Grand Champion Market Steer Drive was held Friday, February 27, 2015, at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
4-H and FFA youth competed within fifteen different breed divisions, with the Grand and Reserve Champions of each breed winning a $10,000 scholarship. The Grand and Reserve Champions of the thirteen different breed divisions were brought into the AT&T Center as part of the rodeo to compete in the Grand Drive, where the Grand and Reserve market steer of the show were selected.
Jagger Horn of Anson, Texas, won the Grand Champion Market Steer title and is a member of the Jones County FFA.
Horn said tomorrow as he sells his champion steer, “The White Hammer” it will be bittersweet, but the money will all go towards his college fund, so it’s worth it. Thirteen year old Horn said his prize winnings will allow him to attend a junior college to judge livestock and then go forth to get an agriculture degree.
Horn said he would like to thank his family for their help in raising his steer, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo for the opportunity, and everyone else who supported him along the way. Horn emphasized that raising a champion steer comes along with a lot of hard work, but he is very thankful for a father who can help him along every step of the way.
Horn enjoys playing football, baseball and basketball outside of showing market steers. “The White Hammer” sold for $130,000 in the Junior Market Steer Auction on February 28, 2015.
