The word for today is Christmas. A lot of people are afraid of that word. They even object to the greeting Merry Christmas. Well, I am not afraid to use it. I want everyone to have a very Merry Christmas and be blessed. I want to encourage everyone in the area to drive by our little town of Hawleyville on FM 3326 about 4.5 miles from the crossroads in Hawley and check out our decorations for Christmas. I added the following little Christmas tale for your enjoyment. Have a blessed day and remember the first word in Christmas is “Christ.”
A TEXAS CHRISTMAS STORY
Luke 2:1-20 RTV(revised Texas version)
It happened like this a little over a hundred years back out in west Texas, that there went out an order from Cactus Gus, that all the state should be taxed.
(And this taxing was first made when Sam Houston was governor of Texas.)
And all went to be taxed, every one into the home town where he was borned and bred.
And little Joe also went up from Galveston, down on the coast, into west Texas, unto the town he was borned in, which is called Hawleyville; (because all his kin was borned thar.)
He went thar to pay his darn taxes with Mary Lou his wife, who was in a motherly way.
And by the by, while they were there, the day finally came that she would deliver.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in a feed sack cloth, and laid him in a horse trough; because there was no room for them in the hotel.
And there were in the same county sheepherders out on the plains, keeping watch over their flock all night because the coyotes were howling up a ruckus..
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shined all around them: and they were shakin in their boots.
And the angel said unto them, Don’t be spooked, boys, looky here, I bring you good news of great joy, which shall be to all folks here abouts.
For unto you is born this day in the town of Hawleyville, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the youngun wrapped in a feed sack, lying in a horse trough.
And suddenly there was with the angel a whole passel of the heavenly bein’s praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, good will toward all men.
And bye the bye, as the angels were gone away from them into the roundup in the skies, the sheepherders said to each other, Let's mosey over to Hawleyville, and see this marvelous thing which is done happened, which the Lord hath made us privy to..
And they came with haste, and found Mary Lou, and Little Joe, and the baby lying in a horse trough.
And when they had laid eyes on it, they spread the news throughout the territory the saying which was parlayed to them about this child.
And all they that heard it scratched their heads in wonderment at those things which were told them by the sheepherders.
But Mary Lou kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
And the sheepherders returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard tell of and seen with their own eyes.
