A total of 3,371 votes were cast in Jones County in the last two weeks: 966 in early voting and2,239 on Tuesday. Jones County proved once again that they are primarily Republican with a whopping 82% made up of 1,343 voters casting a straight republican ticket. 17% of the county voted straight democrat, .73% voted straight libertarian, and .43% voted straight green party.
County wide in the Governor race Greg Abbott received 2,739 votes. Wendy Davis received 533 votes. The Libertarian and Green Party candidates received 41 and 16 votes respectfully and there were 9 write-ins.
In the race for US Senator, John Cornyn received 81% of the vote while David Alameel received only 15%. US Representative Randy Neugebauer received 2,529 votes to his opponent Neal Marchbanks’s 560 votes. Dan Patrick won the Lieutenant Governor’s race with 2,645 votes over Leticia Van de Putte’s 555. Ken Paxton claimed the seat vacated by Greg Abbott with 77% of the vote.
In the Commissioner of Agriculture place, Sid Miller received 2,494 votes to win the office vacated by Todd Staples.
In the race for County Commissioner PCT 2 between Steve Lefevre and Write-in Lonnie Vivian, Lefevre came out victorious with 500 votes over Vivian's 291 votes.
In the Anson Alderman Race Evelyn Edwards defeated Anthony Ramos 201 to 196 in Place III. Pete Klein defeated Dee Shellman 241 to 159 in the unexpired Place IV vacated by Carla Woodruff.
In the Anson ISD school board race, winners were Lori Boyd and Keith Graham. Graham 492 votes, Boyd received 401 votes, Cody Cooley 207, Debbie Heald 156, and Nikki Nash 150.
In Stamford City Council Race, Pam Reither received 64 votes to Rey Alvarez’s 42 to win Place 2. Leldon Clifton held on to his place receiving 63% of the vote (123 votes) over Burney Herman’s 37% (73 votes).
Dennis R. Merrick Jr. was elected Mayor of Lueders. In the Lueders City Council winners were Dustin Sweet with 34 votes, Stephen Sweet 30, and Lyndia Willis 28. Lueders Prop 891 passed with 55% of the vote (33 votes) and Lueders Prop 846 passed with 61% of the vote (37 votes).
For Hawley, in Place 4 of the HISD Board Keith Hicks won the space with 322 votes, Lori Stoker won Place 5 with 350 votes.
