FCCLA members Bethaney Clayton, Marshae McGee and Tayler Vance advanced to National Competition on Saturday, April 13 in Dallas at the State FCCLA Contest and Convention. These students placed first out of 29 teams to advance to the next and final round. They will travel to Nashville, TN in July to compete against other schools across the nation for top honors.
FCCLA Star Event competition consists of students doing projects in their community and school. These projects range from service projects to interviewing skills, investigating careers, culinary skills, programs that are used in working with children, money management and a number of other topics from Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum areas. Students write a script, do displays, manuals, power points and then present their projects and results to a panel of judges.
Scores are based on creativity, subject matter knowledge, speaking skills, use of technology in the project, and evaluation methods.
