March 1st marks the 25th Anniversary of Stamford’s local State Farm Agent Leldon Clifton. Clifton, who was raised in Iraan and Hamlin, grew up with experience in the banking business as his father served as the president of the Hamlin Bank for many years.
After graduating from Hamlin High School, he went on to get two degrees from Hardin Simmons, one in business finance, and the other in accounting. He married his college sweetheart Nancy on August 11, 1973, making this year their 40th year of marriage. They have one son, Leldon, and three beautiful granddaughters.
Clifton started working in the banking business under his dad when he was 15 and went on to work as a CPA in an accounting firm. He also worked for Easy Serve for many years. He was a State Farm customer at the time and after several discussions with the company, he was told about an opportunity in Stamford and 25 years ago moved to Stamford to open his State Farm office. In April of 1988, he received the Rookie of the Year award from State Farm. He has also been honored four other times with Agent Awards. He is also past president of the Rotary Club and the Stamford Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Stamford and on the Stamford City Council, where he is Mayor Pro Tem, a position he has held for a number of years.
Clifton expresses great appreciation for the years Stamford has given him. “The citizens of Stamford are the salt of the earth.” The Stamford American congratulates Mr. Clifton on 25 years of serving Stamford and wishes him many more!
