Softball Season Is Here!

It's that time of the year again, Stamford! Softball season is upon us now, and the girls have already started out the season with wins.

Coach Jimmy Wilson started the softball program at Stamford High School but shortly after he left, Coach Rick Musemeche, or as everyone else refers to him, Coach M, took over. This year will be Coach M’s 15th year coaching and he loves every bit of it. He loves working with the players and loves the game.

In a recent interview when asked about the upcoming season, Coach Musemeche said, “I see lots of potential in the new players and if they can live up to the expectations, we will have a successful season.” In regard to district play, he said, “I feel like we have a good chance of nailing down 3rd place and if we really work hard we might surprise ourselves and get 2nd.” When asked about who would give the Lady Bulldogs the greatest competition, Haskell was the top of the list. According to Coach M, the biggest weaknesses this year are inexperience, team speed and the fundamentals on defense but the team’s strengths are enthusiasm, a genuine love of the game, a great work ethic and a burning desire to win.

The Lady Bulldogs have quite a few players this year especially since they only lost 4 players last year; Macy Miles, Jessica Guerra, Yolanda Jimenez, and Megan Akins. The Varsity team this year consists of seniors Victoria Martinez, Gabby Hernandez and Tiffany Martinez. Juniors are Stephanee McGee, Kayele Wilhelm, Andrea Longoria, Katrina Garcia and sophomores are Maley Villanueva, Haley Mueller and Madisyn Letz. This year’s freshmen who are no strangers to the game are Jasalynn Applin, Bailea Wilhelm, Marissa Hernandez, Alex Macias and Raquel Pachicano.

This year Stamford will also have a JV Lady Bulldogs team consisting of Brittany Becknel, Senaida Jimenez, Ryah Mitchell, Kaitlin Voss, Kourtney Cedillo, Jackeline Sarmiento, Alisia Moreno, Marissa Vasquez, Chesney Lefevre, Sabrina Gomez, Kara Ramos and Leila Gonzalez.

Coach M encourages everyone to come out and watch the Lady Bulldogs whenever possible!
