To anyone that has dined at the Blue Jean Café on North Swenson they have received a meal made of good home cooking know-how, fresh food, and lots of love.
It has been a long and winding road, but somehow David and Rachel Andruch found their way to Stamford. Pushed to move from Arizona in part due to a bad economy; lured to move in part for the search for something more and a life and place that would allow them to raise their nine children and hold on to the principles that have guided their lives, they made the decision to return to West Texas, to Stamford, where Rachel’s mother, Sharron Crawford, lives. And that is exactly what they have done. Look at them and you know it hasn’t been easy, but really look at them and you see a family with the determination, work ethic, and vision to succeed. You see it in their faces, in how they interact with each other and their children, in the house they have painstakingly renovated and turned into a restaurant, in the quality of the food they prepare, and in the hospitality they show to others.
Ask them, and they’ll be the first to tell you that they never imagined opening a restaurant would entail so much work, but they’ll also be the first to tell you they feel blessed. Their main goal is to provide a quality product for a reasonable price. As Rachel puts it, “We’re not just here making food. We’re making good food, putting quality ingredients and heart into it.” “David,” she says, “likes to cook everything from scratch using the good stuff.” And so he does, from the lunch menu, to the hand-dipped chicken fried steak.
The fare is hearty American from burgers to chicken fried steak to chuck roast tacos (yes, chuck roast tacos) to Rachel’s Pies to homemade French fries. This doesn’t include their revolving door of daily specials that always prove to be "out of the world" good. Their first day of business was Tuesday, February 14, 2012 and it has been a rollercoaster since then. They are especially thankful to the Stamford community for giving them such a warm reception and hope to provide a place where people can come, be at ease, and eat quality food for many years to come.
The Blue Jean Café is located at 511 North Swenson and their phone number is (325)773-2522. They will have a special dining experience on February 14th in honor of their anniversary.
